Noticed a 40-second lag in one of our monitoring dashboards. Traced it back through three services. Small numbers matter in operations. A 40-second delay is invisible on a graph and enormous in an incident.

Sent a long email to a colleague after a shift handover. Not because the situation was urgent, but because it was going to matter later and I wanted it in writing. Two months from now nobody will remember the conversation, but everyone can find the email.

Watched a colleague spend two hours on a single PowerPoint slide. I was going to make fun of him, then I saw the slide. It was clear in a way that most slides are not. Half the discipline of writing is deciding what to leave out.

Started closing every terminal I am not actively using. Kept noticing I was context-switching without realizing it. Fifteen terminals open, one actually in use. Small hygiene fix, big focus gain.

Built the first proper AI tool for a personal need. Realized halfway through that the interesting design decisions were all about what NOT to include. The model is easy. The restraint is hard.

Moved a small Vue project from Options API to Composition API. Not for any performance reason -- just for readability. When the logic is 40 lines, one script block reads better than four optional sections.

Wrote a README for a small internal script. Not because anyone asked, but because the script will outlive my memory of writing it. A README is a contract with your future self.

Re-read Thinking in Systems. The chapter on delays keeps coming back to me -- most operational problems are feedback loops with a long lag, and the temptation is always to blame the wrong person.

Discovered that FormSubmit had been silently failing for two days. Switched to Web3Forms. It works, and the setup is a single API key. Lesson noted: third-party form services are a single point of failure, and the failure mode is silence.

Restarted the portfolio site. Wrote a small PowerShell script that generates every page from a data table. Feels right -- one file, one command, one deploy.

Added View Transitions to this site. Cross-page fades, no JavaScript framework. Small thing, disproportionate effect on how the site feels.

Turned on TypeScript strict mode across an old project. 200 errors, then 40, then 3. Most of them were real bugs that would have shipped. Strictness is not a style preference, it is a small honesty tax.

Slow afternoon. Learned that the PowerShell script that generates this site builds all 30+ pages in under two seconds. There is something satisfying about that -- no bundler, no cache, no build server.

Published the first essay on this site. Was nervous about putting writing out in public again. It was less scary than expected, and mostly because the piece felt true.
